Artist's Description

Young bull elk test each other's mettle at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's elk refuge in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, a valley on the edge of Grand Teton National Park. The refuge was established to provide winter habitat for the Jackson Elk Herd. Elk leave the lower elevations in April and May, following the receding snowline back into the high country. In their summer range, elk feed on lush meadow plants and use forests for shelter. How lucky was I to have these two locking horns!
