A preserved site of wagon ruts of the Oregon Trail on the North Platte River, near Guernsey, Wyoming. Wagon wheels, animals, and trudging settlers heading westward in the mid-1800s wore down the trail about two to six feet into a sandstone ridge here. This half-mile stretch is the best-preserved set of Oregon Trail ruts anywhere along its length, from Missouri to what is now the Pacific Coast state of Oregon. The site is maintained as a State Historic Site within Guernsey State Park.
