Artist's Description

Lake Granby in Grand County, Colorado — the third-largest body of water in the state. It was created by the erection of Granby Dam in 1950 as part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project. The lake is bounded by approximately 40 miles of shoreline. It is popular with anglers and is continually stocked with trout and kokanee salmon.

Highsmith is donating her life’s work of more than 100,000 images, copyright-free, to the Library of Congress, which established a rare one-person archive. Out of 14 million images, the Carol M.
