Description
A snowboarder descends Aspen Mountain. The recreational activity was first developed in the 1960s, when a Michigan engineer named Sherman Poppen fastened two skis together with a rope so his children could glide more steadily down a hill. The contraptions were first called "snurfers," combining "snow" and "surf." Snowboarding developed as a sort of populist answer to snobbish skiing. It didn't become an Olympic sport until 1998. Now, some people only use the popular snowboard and do not use skis. I enjoyed all that Aspen had to offer.
